FAMILY SAFARIS
There are many safari lodges that warmly welcome families, offering dedicated children's clubs and activities designed to make your holiday more enjoyable and stress-free. When selecting a family-friendly safari destination, here are the key things we consider:
Accommodation
The right setup depends on the age of your children. You might prefer shared accommodation, a family suite, or interleading rooms to ensure everyone is comfortable and secure. These options are limited at many lodges—often just one or two family units—so it's best to book well in advance.
Activities
We look for destinations that offer a variety of engaging activities beyond traditional game drives. While long drives can be a highlight, they may not always hold a child’s attention. Walks, horseback riding, mountain biking, swimming, cooking with the chefs, or learning from experienced guides can all make the safari experience much more exciting for young adventurers.
Safety
Safety is a top priority, especially for younger children. In areas with big game, fenced camps are essential. Due to safety concerns, many lodges—particularly in Botswana—require children to be at least 12 years old.
Private Vehicles
Some lodges require families with young children to book a private vehicle (at an additional cost) to ensure the comfort of all guests.
Health Considerations
It’s important to understand the presence of malaria in your chosen destination and take appropriate precautions.
